Say it ain’t so! Brett Hull has packed it in as a studio analyst for NBC after filling the role for just one season.
The former NHL sniper is increasing his role within the Dallas Stars organization and, thus, has limited time to act like a baby on national television.
There’s not much more to say on the issue other than: “It’s about time!”
During his time on the air, Hull often could be seen and heard arguing for the sake of arguing, sulking when he didn’t get his way, and playing favorites while using little or no logic.
I understand Hull’s role was to play point and counterpoint with co-analyst Ray Ferraro, but he often turned what should have been entertaining, inconsequential debates uncomfortable, heated arguments.
Quite simply, the man has too big of a head to realize that those around him don’t have to have the same opinion as he does.
My choice to replace Hull would be Mark Messier or Scotty Bowman. Both are extremely knowledgeable about the sport and have amazing experiences to draw from — just like Hull. Both also have strong personalities and are outspoken — just like Hull.
The difference, however, is that neither Messier nor Bowman would act like a five-year-old when others are in disagreement.
Good riddance, Mr. Hull. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
