To update everyone on the standings of the Faceoff Factor Fantasy Hockey League now that we are at the quarter point of the season, here’s a look at the standings and which players have been leading their teams as well as which ones have been noticeably absent:

Rank Team Owner Record
1 Zerstorers Matt Bodenschatz 78-36-19
2 The Vlassic Crime Michael Farkas 71-42-20
3 WillPlay4Beer Kyle Dreibelbies 61-56-16
4 EagleMorph Andrew Chiappazzi 57-55-21
5 HigingTheRingDings Adam Jennings 55-60-18
6 Babych’s Mustache CJ "Stoosh" Jiuliante 54-60-19
7 Ruthless Interlopers Brian Metzer 49-69-15
8 Pens163 Paige Gagne 34-81-18

Zerstorers – Matt Bodenschatz

  • MVP: Henrik Zetterberg, DET – Zetterberg wins a close race over Sidney Crosby in this category
  • Sleeper: Jason Arnott, NSH – Although an established player, Arnott could not have been expected to put up a point per game on a depleted Predators team
  • Flop: (tie) Alexander Semin, WSH and Martin Havlat, CHI – Both of these goal-scoring wingers can put up tons of points, but have a combined 4 points due to injuries.

The Vlasic Crime – Michael Farkas

  • MVP: Martin St. Louis, STL – St. Louis was a shoe-in first round pick and he’s showing why.
  • Sleeper: Manny Legace, STL – Who would have thought that he would outperform Roberto Luongo in goal on this team?
  • Flop: Milan Michalek, SJS – This was supposed to be a break-out year for him because of his flashes of brilliance last year. 7 goals and 2 assists isn’t what most would have projected for him.

WillPlay4Beer – Kyle Dreibelbies

  • MVP: (tie) Mike Richards and Daniel Briere, PHI – Richards has been one of the surprises in the Eastern Conference and Briere has flourished on the top line. Both players have 30 points right now.
  • Sleeper: Daniel Carcillo, PHX – Half a point per game and over 100 penalty minutes for a player in his first full season. Carcillo is getting tons of ice time because of how bad Phoenix is.
  • Flop: Simon Gagne, PHI – A late October concussion is keeping Gagne off the ice and the once promising KGB line (Knuble-Briere-Gagne) is nowhere to be found.

EagleMorph – Andrew Chiappazzi

  • MVP: Vincent Lecavalier, TBL – Simply the most complete forward in the league right now. Crosby will take this title soon, but it’s tough to complain about any point in #4’s game.
  • Sleeper: Matt Cullen, CAR – 24 points and 15 power play points are very respectable numbers in any fantasy league at this point in the season.
  • Flop: Jordan Staal, PIT – He made a name for himself last year as a defensive forward who could score at any time. Apparently, he didn’t want that reputation because he’s on pace for 8 goals and a -24 rating this year.

HidingTheRingDings – Adam Jennings

  • MVP: Ilya Kovalchuk, ATL – Love him or hate him, he can score and he’s showing it.
  • Sleeper: Robert Lang, CHI – A lot of teams thought he was washed up. He has 20 points to prove the nay-sayers wrong.
  • Flop: Martin Straka, NYR – Only 5 points because of an injury.

Babych’s Mustache – CJ "Stoosh" Jiuliante

  • MVP: Evgeni Malkin, PIT – Malkin is proving that the Sid-Geno 1-2 punch is going to be feared for a long time to come.
  • Sleeper: Niklas Backstrom, MIN – A 10-4 record is outstanding for a young goalie.
  • Flop: Slava Kozlov, ATL – 13 points and a -5 rating for a player who has made a name as an outstanding two-way player.

Ruthless Interlopers – Brian Metzer

  • MVP: Cory Stillman, CAR – On pace for over 110 points this year, this was an excellent pick and the type of value pick that could win a lot of leagues for people.
  • Sleeper: Paul Stastny, COL – 27 points and a 21% shooting percentage are very good numbers, especially for a young player.
  • Flop: Patrick Marleau, SJS – By any standards, Marleau has been one of the biggest big-name disappointments this year.

Pens163 – Paige Gagne

  • MVP: Jarome Iginla, CGY – Debatably the best Flame ever. He is to Calgary what Ryan Smyth was to Edmonton, but with more scoring.
  • Sleeper: Justin Williams, CAR – 25 points to show for a very hot first quarter.
  • Flop: (tie) Marc-Andre Fleury, PIT and Miikka Kiprusoff, CGY – Both of these goalies are supposed to be ‘elite’ goaltenders, but have losing records and sub-.900 save percentages.
