If Marian Gaborik isn’t a household name to NHL fans, he should be.

The oft-injured forward is one of the most skilled players in the world, yet he often gets outshined because he plays for a defense-first team.

But last night was Gaborik’s time to shine, as he buried five goals and an assist in the Minnesota Wild’s 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers.

As if the story wasn’t good enough on it’s own, there’s also this:

Gaborik spent time yesterday morning watching Youtube videos of Pavel Bure’s five-goal game from the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

“My buddies sent me a YouTube video,” Gaborik said, according to the Associated Press.

He added: “One time I got five goals when I was playing back home for a pro club back there, but this is just totally different.”

He’s an impressive player. It’s just too bad he’s hidden away in Minnesota — and that he has suffered numerous injuries throughout his young career.
