Coming off of 110 points in 25 games last year, Ben Hanowski had set the bar high for himself heading into St. Cloud’s program as one of the most highly touted prospects in the nation.

Hanowski, a true sniper with a golden touch, set his NCAA career off with a bang tonight as he netted two power-play goals in a 4-3 win over Lethbridge University.

With a great, crisp release, pinpoint accuracy, and extremely sharp puckhandling skills, Hanowski adds a sniper element that the Penguins prospect pool has not seen in some time.

The biggest question mark coming into this game was Hanowski’s ability to play against bigger and better competition. Hanowski dominated against players his size and age, but had limited time playing against collegiate level talent.

Those questions were answered 2:29 into the first period tonight when Hanowski notched a power-play goal to give St. Cloud a 1-0 lead.

Hanowski scored another power-play goal at 1:10 of the third period to give St. Cloud a 3-2 lead.

SCSU conducted a post-game interview with Hanowski that can be found below.

‘09 4th rounder Nick Petersen is off to a fast start in the Q, with 3 goals and 3 assists in two games. And former draft pick Jake Muzzin, a big blueliner who went unsigned, is also playing well with six points in seven games in the O. Both playing as overagers. Maybe the Pens will give Muzzin a look later in the season. Andy Bathgate has three points in six games, so far.

Petersen looked pretty good in training camp for being at his first one. Muzzin had a shoulder injury and the Penguins were wary of signing him. If he stays healthy all year I would not be surprised to see him signed next season.
