The Kingston Frontencas had a home dance scheduled last night with the Peterborough Petes and the K-Rock Center was treated to an offensive explosion.
Despite losing young center Ethan Werek to a knee injury in the game, the Fronts were able to put up seven goals on the night.
Nathan Moon lead the way offensively with 5 primary assists on the night, his game looking much more refined and sharp than it had in the previous contests. Moon’s vision and patience was back on display at the K-Rock Center as he wowed the crowd with some sharp moves and excellent passing to help the Frontenacs take the lead in the East Division and keep up the torrid pace they’ve put forth to start the season.
Looking down on the rest of the Eastern Conference is new for Moon’s tenure in Kingston. Previously, the Frontenacs had been the cellar-dwellar laughingstock of the OHL.
Moon, now in his overage year, has the opportunity to lead the Circle K’s back to the playoffs and make his mark on the OHL before his year is over.
Moon’s five assist night now gives him 10 points (1+9) in 12 OHL games this season.
Cogeco TV did a very candid interview with Moon at the end of the game, grilling him about his off-start and his status with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Moon highlighted a difference in mentality between NHL camp and the OHL that was affecting his ability to skate pucks in and settle the play down. He pointed to a meeting between he and head coach Doug Gilmour as the turning point to his performance tonight.
Moon has yet to sign with the defending Stanley Cup champions, leaving his hockey future a bit cloudy at this point.
Moon will look to continue his points rampage tonight as the Frontenacs visit the last place Sarnia Sting.
Below is the full interview that Cogeco conducted with Moon:

It’s about time, I’ve been watching his numbers and, while they never tell the whole story, five points in 11 games was well below his talent level. Although this isn’t Moon’s overage year, it’s his “senior” year. He won’t turn 20 until January.
