Summary

Evgeni Malkin is unstoppable.

In almost expected-fashion, Malkin scored a goal and notched three assists to factor in on all four Pittsbrugh Penguins goals as they defeated their cross-state rivals for the first time this season.

The win solidifies the Penguins position as the first place team in the Atlantic Division, giving them a four point lead over the Philadelphia Flyers and a three point lead over the New Jersey Devils.

Malkin’s four points helped him get closer to the league lead in points. The league leader, fellow Russian Alexander Ovechkin, had a three-point afternoon, allowing Malkin to get just one point closer.

Ty Conklin made 27 saves on 30 shots and Martin Biron made 21 saves on 25 shots.

The Penguins’ next game is Wednesday night against the Boston Bruins.

Great win. I am glad to see Malkin playing so well. I love that guy. I thought he would have a monster year, and he has come through big time. The magnitude of this win is almost immeasurable. Great to finally beat Philly this year, with out Crosby in the lineup as well. Fantastic

Tim, the game had so much meaning. First off, it is a confidence booster for the Penguins for their future matchups against the Flyers. I was beginning to think they might go 0-8 against them, and I rarely am pessimistic like that. But it also gives them that cushion between them and the Devils and them and the Flyers. Divisional games are so meaningful right now, and they just won a big one!
