Crosby Out Longer Than Expected

Sidney Crosby will now miss at least three more games in an effort to get rid of the soreness in his ankle. If Hossa does not return on Sunday, the Penguins are down another forward again. As was written previously, Filewich would be the likely call up.

Hopefully, it is just soreness as they are saying and not a re-aggravation. Sid was planning on being back Sunday, but his ankle must not feel as good as he was hoping.

Now, we can all look forward to the Geno-show for the next three games. He sits four points behind Alexander Ovechkin for the league lead in points, and the Pens are a game behind the Devils for first place in the East.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review has a similar story. They mention that Sykora sat out practice today with back soreness. Talbot said he will play Sunday and Hossa is hopeful that he will play.

They also said Crosby said he would be playing if they were in the playoffs, so that’s a good sign.

So who centers the Hossa line now until Sid is ready, assuming that Hossa plays Sunday? Do you move Staal there? Use Talbot? Ideas?

    Talbot would do nicely…

Actually, I’m not worried that Sid won’t be in the line-up just yet….the guys have been playing very well without him. I do want to see what Hossa has to bring, however, so I am anxious to see him play.

Well, Hossa played with Staal in his first game with the Pens. I would assume the same would happen. Then Talbot would center the third line.

    Malone – Malkin – Sykora
    Hossa – Staal – Dupuis
    Taffe – Talbot – Kennedy
    Ruutu – Minard – James

That might be what the line-up would look like.

The Crosby situation has really deteriorated.

This is looking more and more like Sid will be struggling right through the playoffs .. having to play with pain, not being anywhere near his normal ability, and probably having to even miss some playoff games.

I’m very worried. Sid has a tendency to push himself too hard, which he’s apparently already done with this injury .. “re-aggravating” it. This is exactly what a lot of people were afraid would happen .. and it has apparently happened. I wonder how close he is to risking permanent damage .. ?

He’s not going to be back to a normal level until next season. He needs the entire summer to recuperate.

I’d rather he just shut everything down, rather than risk long-term or permanent damage. I feel as if he’s at considerable risk of that, if he keeps trying to play this season and into the playoffs. He’s just too intense to “know better” with this thing.

And he’s almost a liability on the ice in this situation. Everyone keeps deferring to him, feeding him the puck, standing around watching him, waiting for him to work his magic .. but he just can’t. When he’s out of the lineup, at least most of the players are stepping-up their game, putting out a strong, consistent effort with intensity.

This is just a major bummer, because we had a really good shot at the Cup this season with the Hossa acquisition. But we need to think of next season with Sid back .. and the seasons to follow. Sid should be talked-to by Ownership/management .. and he needs to be made to understand that he can’t be allowed to risk his career. He could seriously blow everything by pushing himself at this stage.

And how about getting Sid some custom-made skates that have protection and flexibility for his ankles .. ?

So, Michael, you’re counting this team out now…despite everything they have done this season to prove all the naysayers wrong? This team has, time and again, dug deep to win when things got tough. Losing Crosby for another week isn’t exactly a big worry to me.
