| Series: Penguins
(4) – Flyers (1) – Penguins Win Series |
| |
| Summary |
|
After Pittsburgh Penguins forgot to board the
plan to Philadelphia for game 4, they got exactly what they needed and
more in game 5, blowing out the Flyers 6-0 to earn their 3rd Stanley
Cup Finals appearance in franchise history.
The Penguins came out to start the game on a mission and gained the
powerplay quickly, and Ryan Malone put in the first tally even
quicker, bringing an already excited and loud crowd to their
feet. The Pens continued to play their game and Evgeni Malkin
scored the 2nd goal of the period on a wraparound try that was played
poorly by Marty Biron, who had a bad game all around. In the 2nd
period, Sidney Crosby and Marian Hossa flashed more of their newly
found chemistry when Hossa scored the type of goal people thought he
was brought he to; Hossa fed Crosby in the corner and went to prime
scoring territory, Sid slid him the puck and he fired it home for a
3-0 game. Ryan Malone and Jordan Staal (who had the only two tallies
in the game 4 loss) rounded out the scoring in the 2nd period, which
ended 5-0. Marc-Andre Fleury continued to shine in the net
stopping several key chances by the Flyers in the first 2 periods,
paving the way for the Penguins offense.
The 3rd period was a typical Penguins playoff game for this season,
shut it down, and they did. They limited the Flyers to 8 shots
and in the process scored a goal of their own when Hossa wristed the
puck to the net and Pascal Dupuis clipped it behind Biron for the 6-0
nothing lead. The fans in attendance could smell the end and
began chanting and the remainder of the game was about securing the
shutout for Fleury, which they did, despite being on the penalty kill
after the 18:20 mark of the game.

As awesome as the Penguins were, the crowd was equally impressive. Loud for the entire game, you gotta love it.
Let’s go Pens

Jonathan, Numbers: 0 the number of goals scored by the Fleas while Kris Letang was on the ice. He certainly deserves a star.

i don’t choose the stars…but i would agree…

This win definitely took some of the sting out of Team Canada’s OT loss. It was nice to switch over to CBC and see the Pens up 2-0 going into the second intermission, and even better to watch the Pens add to that lead.
Have fun golfing, Flyers. See you next season.
