The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially announced the re-signing of unrestricted free agent center Jeff Taffe and restricted free agent winger Jonathan Filewich.

Taffe, 27, appeared in 45 games for Pittsburgh and 27 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) last season. Taffe notched 12 points in his NHL time, and 21 points for the Baby Pens. He signed a one-year deal worth $550,000.

Filewich, a 23 year old who made his NHL debut last season, was given a two-year deal. The 70th overall pick in the 2003 draft went pointless in his first five NHL games last season, and registered a career-low 10 goals and 31 points for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Are these two-way deals? Just curious.

Good to see Taffe back. I’d like to see a T.K. – Taffe – Godard 4th line.

I’m with Jesse, Taffe is a hard worker.

I like Taffe re-signing as well. He showed he could contribute at the NHL level.

It should definately be a competitive training camp for the last few roster spots.
I love Tyler Kennedy, but I wonder if the coaches would decide to send him back to WBS to get a regular top 6 six shift rather than just a few minutes of time on the 4th line with the big club?
