Player-By-Player Analysis - Goaltenders

Marc-Andre Fleury – Fleury suffered a high ankle sprain part way through last season. This caused him to miss all but 35 games in the regular season. When he was on the ice at the end of the season and in the playoffs, he showed us why we began to build our franchise around him. He was outstanding in goal for us and should rank as one of the best goaltenders in the league this season.
Random Stat – Fleury ranked #7 in the league in goaltender +/- (Goals for while on the ice – Goals against while on the ice). He was a +18. Dominik Hasek led the league with a +34. Ex-Penguin Johan Hedberg was last in the league (89th) with a -25.
Dany Sabourin – Played well as Marc-Andre Fleury’s backup and as a spot-starter, but crumbled under pressure when relied upon as the starting goaltender. Should do an adequate job as Fleury’s backup this year since Fleury will play a high percentage of the games barring another injury.
John Curry – Played well for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season, especially in the playoffs. Curry is unlikely to be seen unless Sabourin under performs or either Fleury or Sabourin is injured.
David Brown – A standout goaltender at Notre Dame. Brown also is unlikely to be seen unless Sabourin under performs or either Fleury or Sabourin is injured.
