| Inside The Game |
| Finally! The shortest offseason in years for the Pittsburgh Penguins seemed like the longest for fans who can’t seem to forget images of their favorite players surrendering the Stanley Cup to the Detroit Red Wings. But, as the offseason comes to an end, the Penguins — already without a large portion of last year’s team — have fallen victim to the unpopular injury bug, which has taken defensemen Sergei Gonchar and Ryan Whitney for a significant portion of the season and winger Petr Sykora for at least a game. It matters not, though, as hockey season is upon us. Tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon marks the inauguration of the 2008-09 season, the Stockholm Premier. In the past are roster cuts, "B squad" games, and scrimmages against teams called "Jokerit." Ahead lie 82 must-win games that, hopefully will lead to the Stanley Cup. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy what promises to be an interesting, if not thrilling season. And now the numbers… |

Tom,
I have to respectfully disagree with you about Darryl Sydor and Alex Goligoski’s defensive play. Goligoski has been, to say the least, a competent defensive player from what I’ve seen of him, and he’s a fantastic offensive defenseman. Sydor is also very stout on the defensive side of the puck.
