As a weekly segment, we’ll take a look at the top
three ranked Penguins in several stat categories.
I’ve changed the look this week as the previous setup led to some
confusion. Hopefully this new design — with some new statistical
categories — will lend a bit better to the eye.
The categories are broken down into offense-oriented statistics,
defense-oriented statistics, miscellaneous statistics, goaltender
statistics, and team statistics. The newly added categories include
giveaways and takeaways, as well as an entire section dedicated
specifically to how the team is doing as a whole.
As always, if you see a mistake or if you would like to see a new
statistical category added, please let me know via the comments section
below!

I think it is rather telling that Mark Eaton isn’t among the team leaders on blocked shots. IIRC, he led the team both years when he was lost to injury.
I just don’t think his game is there (yet).

Beautiful goal by Staal on Saturday – I am hoping that will be the catalyst for some offensive production from him.

I remember hearing when Orpik got picked the scouting report was “Rob Blake without the shot.”
After several years. It appears that scouting report was pretty accurate!

Todd, I am a bit surprised by Eaton’s slow start, but I tend to think it is just that, a slow start. Time will tell, I suppose.
Ryans, I missed the goal, but I hear it was classic Staal and that his overall game was top-notch. Let’s hope he gains some confidence.
Tom, I have giveaways and takeaways already in the report — unless you want me to look at those stats for the team as a whole?
KG, Orpik is turning into a stud defender.

I was wondering how Crosby is number one in the SH points category—seing as although all three players have one pt, Talbot and
Malkin each have a goal whereas Crosby only has an assist. And as far as I can see its not alphabetical either as Talbot ranks higher than Malkin, so how are those rankings determined?

Miami, good question. I have no idea. My stats are pulled from the NHL.com stat machine.
Tom, I’ll see what I can do.
