| Summary |
| Can anyone say deja vu? Just over a month ago, the Pittsburgh Penguins played the New York Rangers and blew a 2-1 lead late in the third period, then ultimately lost in a shootout by a Frederik Sjostrum goal. And tonight? Well, basically the same. Apparently the Penguins did not learn their lesson, again giving two points to their divisional rival, who didn’t have the lead once in the game. But the Penguins have bigger worries on their hands, as forwards Tyler Kennedy and Mike Zigomanis left the game with injuries and did not return. There is no word on the status of either player, but it is possible that, with a game against the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow night, the Penguins simply took extra precautions to risk making minor injuries worse. Don’t be surprised, however, if someone is called up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL for precautionary purposes. |

Crosby said between periods on a MSG interview that they can’t do what they did the last time they were in MSG. They have to attack and not sit back…So much for that…
What is the Tortorella line? “play safe and die” or something like that..I see what he means…
Seriously though. Satan, Sykora, Talbot, Fedotenko are not pulling their weight and they are the best goal scoring wings the team has…issues…
It’s really too bad that Staal couldn’t man up and play a goal scoring winger this year…They will have to address the wing issue…

I found this very interesting. While watching the game I noticed that penalties became scarece. Now there were definelty alot of calls that could and should of been made, against both teams. Why are refs putting away the whistle and I’ve heard of putting away the whistle late and in over time but the second peroid? This league is becoming a joke when it comes to officiating. Consistency is all that is needed and apparently its a hard concept to grasp. I don’t pay much attention to who refs what games and how they go about it but I would have to say that these guys really don’t like Sid. Not only was he harrassed by Orr but then late in the third, while 2 feet from the ref, he was punched in the back of the head. What the heck is that about? Then just so it doesn’t sound like I’m being biased, how do you not call Cooke for driving Callahan into the turnbuckle, well after the puck was moved.

I don’t know what the heck is wrong. One night this team gets contributions from many players, then it’s like…they fall flat.
Tonight could very well be a disaster unless they wake up.

Honestly, after losing Zigomanis and Kennedy in the game, I was happy the Pens got a point out of this game.
Right now the Rangers are completely healthy and the Pens are playing without their two best d-men, starting goalie and then lost two more contributing forwards during the game.

lets not abandoned ship already here, remember lat yrs reg season at MSG how many points did the Pens get… oh yeah 0. yeah they blew leads but I think it was easy to see that the pens outplayed them the 1st period this game, and the whole game the first time, trust me im prob most pissed off because i was at both games and had to deal with one of the more obnoxious groups of people in the US. Rangers rely on Lundqvist too much – he wont win them a 7 game series vs. the pens.

Too bad for the Rags there aren’t shootouts in the playoffs.

I’m with Ryans and keep in mind we still have 1 more game in NY 3 games against them in the Igloo and at least we got 1 pt. Them (the Rangers) not fighting for the game in regulation also says something. As we’ve seen around the league 2 goal leads are nothing and Momentum is a fluky thing. But chin up they still have to come play in our house and then we’ll see how things play out

While I do think the Pens tried to sit back and protect the lead for a little bit this game, I think they did a much better job of continuing the attack this time around. If it weren’t for a few bad bounces, the game would have ended 5-1 for the Pens, instead of going 2-2 into the shootout.
This game hurt a bit, because it felt like the Pens should have won, but if they can keep moving forward like they have been, with continuing to attack, and continuing to win battles for the puck like they did in this game, they’ll do just fine over the long haul of the season.

Nice discussion and valid points by all.
I want to underscore the negative impact losing Kennedy and Zigomanis had last night. They were forced to roll three lines at that point — and the most consistent of those lines (Kennedy-Staal-Cooke) was broken up because of injury. Also, with Zigomanis out, they became even more unsuccessful in the faceoff circle in a game where they already were losing the majority of the draws.
The Pens played well last night, but they gave two points to a divisional rival — one that’s leading them in the standings. I’m not happy at all about this loss, but I also realize they still gained a point out of it…which is important.

I know the Feds and Satan are streaky and have not contributed that much lately, but both played much better last night. Satan actually showed a lot of hussle last night at both ends of the ice. Both of these players (along with Sykora) have a history as being streaky scorers. I would not be surprised to see all three go on a tear here in the near future. It would be nice to not have all of them on a scorless streak at the same time, though.
