The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the promotion of second year defenseman Ben Lovejoy from their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
In 24 AHL games this season, Lovejoy has recorded four goals and 10 assists to lead the “Baby” Penguins’ in defensive scoring.
The 24-year-old former NCAA (Dartmouth College) defender is a popular player who has his own blog, which he regularly updates. Lovejoy also has taken the time to speak with Faceoff Factor writers Kyle Dreibelbies and Eric Politowski.
While it has not been announced why Lovejoy has been recalled, it is worth noting that Alex Goligoski played slightly less than normal Saturday, logging 17:33 of icetime compared to his typical 19:02. It may not seem much, but it was enough for the announcers to make a comment during the game.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
UPDATE:
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is assuming Lovejoy was summoned to fill in for Hal Gill, who hurt his right shoulder in the third period yesterday, despite Gill’s post-game comments indicating his injury was not severe.
