After an initial voting burst that saw the Eastern Conference’s starting lineup made up exclusively of Montreal Canadien players, the Pittsburgh Penguins have mounted an assault.

Sidney Crosby now sits atop the All Star Game vote-getters with 600,950 votes, and his lead is rather commanding, as the second place Alexei Kovalev is at 533,507.

Just yesterday, Evgeni Malkin found himself in fifth place, trailing Crosby, Kovalev, and fellow Canadien forwards Saku Koivu and Alex Tanguay, but this morning, Malkin has leapfrogged Tangauy and now has 530,444.

In other words, Malkin is a mere 3,063 votes behind Kovalev for second place in All Star voting.

Other notable Penguins are Sergei Gonchar (third among defenders), Ryan Whitney (fourth among defenders), and Marc-Andre Fleury (second among goalies). Obviously, those three players trail Canadiens.

The voting leaders can be found here.
