1. Jaromir Jagr vs. 1. Ron Francis

Jaromir Jagr spent the early part of his career in Pittsburgh, where he won numerous scoring titles and wore the captain’s “C,” but his demands for a trade and “dying alive” comments have tainted his reputation in the eyes of many.

Ron Francis, meanwhile, made a stop in Pittsburgh during the middle portion of his carrer and quickly became a fan-favorite. Quite possibly the most underrated player in the history of the game, Francis was a leader, both on and off the ice. He didn’t say much, but when he did, everyone listened.

Who will go down as the best player in Pittsburgh Penguins history (aside from the Big Guy, of course)? Only you can decide, so cast your vote and tell your friends!

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Ronnie Francis, but I feel like it speaks to the state of hockey fans everywhere that Coffey didn’t win that round.

Then again, who would I be if I never picked the underdog?

Well, Francis did spend significant time in Pittsburgh — not that Coffey didn’t — and endured himself to the fans both on a personal level and on a hockey level. He was a great guy who is definitely one of the best in the game of all time — so defeating Coffey wasn’t that surprising, to me.

Francis going for the upset over Geno…

I don’t think it would be an upset if Francis were to beat Malkin. Francis helped win 2 cups, Malkin very well could win 2 here, but right now, has none. I think Barrasso should have beaten Malkin since he was crucial in the 2 cup runs. In time Malkin could pass both, but not yet

@Kev, I agree Tommy should have beat Malkin but there should be no question now. Malkin just simply hasn’t been around long enough. Given another year or maybe two and Malkin could win hands down.

    Where is the championship?

Surge, it should be up Friday. With the playoffs in full swing, we at FF have been a bit more busy than we expected and have put the tourney on the back burner. Our timing wasn’t the best on this, but it should be up by the weekend!

Shouldn’t that read… Who will go down as the best player not named Mario Lemieux in Pittsburgh Penguins history?

    Yeah…I guess it should :)

No real surprise here. Jagr has it but in two or three years he will most definetly be ousted.

    Gee, no one’s voting.

...Beloved and venerated as Ron Francis is by everyone ever not named ‘Rick Ley’, that’s just the point. As much as Ronnie did here, he’s basically the, uh, franchise icon for Hartford/Carolina. If he has more significance somewhere else, then by definition he probably shouldn’t be the next-best Penguin ever.

Jags is ours; we drafted him, we raised him; we had all the parent-child quarrels. And oh, yeah, he had some pretty impressive stats, too. And he still worships Mario.

So I think it’s appropriate that he’s winning this.
(/still thinks Tommy got robbed a bit early)

Jagr may not be the favorite Pen of all time but his talent does speak for itself. If Jagr had a little different personality, I have no doubt we would have 1 or 2 more cups at this point.
