A kudos to Puck Daddy for posting the enthralling story of Philly Phaithful and their lame attempt at humor.

I wasn’t going to write anything about this, but one last shot at the Flyers can’t hurt. Besides, I have some time to kill before I get the chance to watch and write about my team playing in the conference semi-finals against the Washington Capitals.

Unfortunately, the folks from Philly Phaithful won’t have that luxury of watching their team play after meeting the Penguins in the playoffs. Again.

If you visit the Puck Daddy link, it will direct you to a photo of Martin Biron sporting a “You can’t spell Crosby without Cry” t-shirt. He’s apparently enjoying the experience.

Well, despite needing an emergency lesson in spelling, we can at least say one thing for certain about those at Philly Phaithful – they know who to hate! (15 points in 11 Games against Biron).

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by the behavior of Flyers fans throughout the series. It’s par for the course.

Speaking of par for the course, ah nevermind, some jokes just write themselves.

Didn’t know where else to post this, but since he’s from Philly, what the hey. Pens top prospect Eric Tangradi underwent surgery to repair a “complete tendon laceration” in his left hand. He’ll need about three months to heal up, which would shelve him until August. That should be enough time for him to be ready for training camp, though it would be understandable if he were rusty given the lengthy healing process.

Regarding WHL scoring stud Casey Pierro-Zabotel, it seems the organization is taking a cautious approach in discussing signing the kid. Unlike Veilleux, Grant & undrafted free agent Joey Haddad, Zabotel was left unsigned last fall. WB/S coach Todd Reirden was recently quoted: “It does get a little bit tricky in terms of (Zabotel being unsigned, and a potential invitation to join WB/S for their playoff run). We have to make sure it’s the right move in terms of the organization and where they see him in our overall depth chart. But he had an outstanding year. He turned the corner,”

I would have liked that the club signed him last fall, along with the others. But, at that time, Zabotel had but half a year of major junior under his belt and he did not stand out in camp, so it’s understandable why the Pens decided to wait. Veilleux got the rook max of $.875M, Caputi got .833M. I’d have no problem signing Zabotel to the same deal as Veilleux. But, if his contract demands are unreasonable after a stellar year in the Dub, don’t be surprised if the Pens deal his rights at the draft.

You’re right, I erred in the time they become free agents. I agree that both are worth signing. Whether Zabotel is “far better and has more potential than Veilleux” is a matter of opinion, nothing more. Part of the reason Zabotel did not distinguish himself in last summer’s camp is that he did not do the things you continually claim that he does (it seems you think everyone is a big, physical, net crashing forward. Like Jeffrey, who is not very physical for his size and certainly doesn’t make a living in front of the net). Zabotel’s got good size, 6’2, 205lbs (he lost weight before last junior season to try and improve his acceleration), but he’s still learning how to use his body. He’s got a well-rounded offensive game. The point will be how much he wants, contractually. If it’s more than $.875M, I think you’ll see the Pens pass on him. I hope his demands are unreasonable, because I’d like to see him in WB/S next season, along with the other young studs in the system.
