Can they do this while the Pens are still in the playoffs?

What exactly does this mean for the Penguins? What are we losing? This might sound like a dumb question, but I’m not too sure of his responsibilities.

Does this somehow make us a weaker team?

Fletcher was basically Shero’s right-hand man. As I understand it, Shero would always get his opinion on everything that was going on and had a ton of say-so as far as what went on in Wilkes-Barre. I believe he was the one that convinced Shero to sign Pesonen (which worked out really well for the AHL team and could still pay dividends for the big club if he’s retained), and given Fletcher’s time with the Ducks, I think it’s safe to say he offered a lot of insight on Kunitz and Tangradi prior to Shero dealing for them.

I think Fletcher is an excellent “hockey guy” so it does weaken the front office a bit, but it’s not a huge blow or anything like that. Besides, you can’t really stand in a guy’s way if there’s a better opportunity out there for him.

I wonder if Shero will talk to Pierre McGuire about filling Fletcher’s job here. By all accounts, the Wild had him pegged as a finalist for that job and McGuire has ties to both Shero and this organization already…

Fletcher is not a player nor a coach, thus I do not believe there are any restrictions on interviewing or being hired away.

If he does take the job, I wish him the best of luck, except against the Penguins, of course.

Congrats to Chuck. He is a bright young hockey man. He will be missed by Shero. I am curious to see who Shero brings in as his replacement…

Bombulie (who covers the WB/S Pens) suggested Jason Boterill is a likely candidate to replace Fletch. Boterill is currently Pittsburghs “capologist.”

    Congrats Fletch.
