30 Days of Mario: Day 7

Nothing about the 2005-06 hockey season was fun if you were a Penguins fan.

Coming off of the heels of a league-debilitating lockout, the Penguins signed free-agents the likes of Ziggy Palffy and Sergei Gonchar in hopes of pushing the Penguins into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With Mario Lemieux back in action, and youngster Sidney Crosby on the rise, the team looked poised to strike.

The opposite happened: everything fell apart.

Now, we revisit that season for just a split second. The pain you experience from watching this video and noticing the Penguins are down 4-0 to the Thrashers when Lemieux scores to start a comeback ought to be enough to allow you to cherish the Cup for a moment during these humid August days.

Despite being down 4-0, the Penguins were able to rally and win this game 7-5. Mario Lemieux had 5 points that night.

This was the Penguins first win in the regular season. It took 10 games to get there.

    Oh! I so remember that game and that goal! It was a game to remember, and one that gave us die hard fans hope.

    Yeah I remeber this game too. I never miss a game but this night was different. My girlfriend and I hadn’t been able to get to the grocery store in forever. That night we watched the first part of the first period. Enough to watch them fall down by 4. Then to the store we went. We took our time but we still made it out in enough time to watch a little of the third. But as we are loading the grocieries I turn on the car and the radio. At first I just heard Mike Lange calling the current play but about half way through loading the grocries he annouces the score on way to a commericial. I just look at my girlfriend in disbelief. That was the last time we ever went for grocieries on a night of a Pens game…LOL

    wheres all the 30 days of mario?? every time i go on this site its still on day 7! i was really looking forward to seeing all 30 days?
