According to the Penguins’ website, defenseman Kris Letang’s shoulder injury will sideline him for two weeks.

The injury, being tagged as a shoulder contusion, occurred during the first period of Saturday’s 5-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

He will join defenseman Sergei Gonchar (broken wrist) and forwards Evgeni Malkin (shoulder), Tyler Kennedy (undisclosed), and Max Talbot (shoulder surgery) on a growing injured list.

The news, however, isn’t all bad, as some had pegged Letang to miss significant time with what could have been a much more severe shoulder injury.

There is no news yet on who will replace Letang in the lineup, as no additional roster moves have been made, but Deryk Engelland, called up Friday as Alex Goligoski battled an illness, would seem to be the most logical replacement.

Other options could include Ben Lovejoy or Nate Guenin.
