As predicted yesterday by Pittsburgh Sports Insider, the Atlanta Thrashers have claimed winger Mark Recchi from the Pittsburgh Penguins off a re-entry waivers.
The Thrashers will pay half of Recchi’s remaining salary, while the Penguins will pay the other half.
With the departure of Recchi, the Penguins now have 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goaltenders on their roster, which is at its maximum size, 23 players.
Until goalie Marc-Andre Fleury’s ankle is healthy enough to play and Ty Conklin is sent back to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton “Baby” Penguins, don’t expect the Penguins to make any roster movement.
And, even then, it seems unlikely general manager Ray Shero will make an addition, as he has indicated in the past he likes to have a roster of 22 players.

Well, I’m glad Recchi has a new NHL home. Let’s hope he realizes when it’s time to retire so he doesn’t go thru this all again!
