Torn ACL Sidelines Eaton Indefinitely

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mark Eaton will be out of action for an indefinite amount of time as he recuperates from a torn ACL in his right knee.

At this point, there has been no roster move to fill Eaton’s void, but Brooks Orpik is expected to replace him in the lineup.

The most likely scenario would see Alain Nasreddine be recalled from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL to serve as a healthy scratch and an occassional fill-in.

However, there is a possibility that, due to Eaton’s significance to the team and the defense’s overall lack of quality, general manager Ray Shero may make some sort of trade to bring in a defensive defenseman.

The holiday roster freeze will will end at midnight December 28.

This sure isn’t good news for the Pens. Hopefully Shero can make something happen, but I’m not holding my breath.

Gag me…This is horrible news. The steadiest d man they have is most likely out for the season. This isn’t a position of strength obviously…

I would hope that Shero will look for an upgrade. Brad Stuart I am sure is available in LA. He is having a poor season, but I am sure he would cost a decent prospect and/or pick…It’s hard to get ahead with the prices out there! kind of like living here in NY!

Definitely a big loss, and one that very well could spark the first significant roster move of the season. I’m not interested in speculating on who might come here, but I’m sure there are numerous defenders available at the right price. This might be the prime time to pry a winger, as well — ompensate for a loss of defense by adding scoring.

Ashley, good idea not to hold your breath, you might turn blue! ;)

I wonder if there is a review on that cheap slew foot trip by Sturm? There sure should be!!

I am thinking there isn’t a review, as we haven’t heard anything, yet. But there certainly should be or should have been. Hopefully the Christmas season just slowed down the process.
