Max Talbot To Return Tonight; Christensen And Kennedy Out

Jesse Marshall | Pittsburgh Penguins

PSI has reported that “Mad” Max Talbot will return to the lineup tonight after suffering a high ankle sprain over a month ago. In addition to Talbot’s return, Ryan Stone will make his first ever NHL appearance tonight for the Penguins due to the fact that forwards Erik Christensen and Tyler Kennedy are out with the flu.

While the return of Talbot is welcome, both Christensen and Kennedy were providing quite the spark for the Penguins offense. Their loss will hurt, but Tampa has allowed a surplus of goals this season, so perhaps the timing is generous.

Ryan Stone, power-forward from Wilkes-Barre Scranton, will play on the 4th line with Jeff Taffe and Georges Laraque.

All right! Talbot is back! Bummer on Kennedy tho. Well, we’ll see what Stone has to offer.

Sounds like another punishing fourth line. I really liked the Ruutu-Taffe-Laraque line a couple games ago. I think it was for only one game, but they really made it known they were on the ice.

I REALLY hope Talbot is %110. That’s irresponsible if the Penguins/Max rush back again.

Nathan, with Christensen and Kennedy out with the flu, I don’t think there is much choice but to play Mad Max.

I thought Ryan Stone had played in a few games with the NHL Penguins .. (?)

Michael, Ryan Stone went straight from the Brandon Wheat Kings to the AHL and hasn’t had a call up since. In many ways, this debut is anticipated highly.

Well, with Stone playing they could always go 11 forwards like they did earlier.

Regardless, I’m happy to see one of my favourites back.

Nathan and Dabich – I’ve been reading Max’s columns on RDS this season. When he first injured his ankle, he said that a good friend of his had the same injury the year before and came back too soon, only to be reinjured and out for 2 months. This friend told Max not to rush things, but we all know the story…Max gets hurt again and is out for much longer.

Now, in his last column (just before Christmas), he wrote that he was going to be smart about it and think of the team before himself in terms of coming back. He also said that he thought that it was realistic to believe that he’d be back in the lineup for the game before the Winter Classic. Considering all this, and looking at how well the Pens have been doing lately, I doubt that Max is rushing back to the game.

Ashley, I agree, I also think that they NEED him, with EC and Kennedy out. I hope he’s ready, and I feel sure he is. Wish I could read his column, but I can’t follow French :/
