The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Baby Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms tonight by a final score of 3-2. The Baby Pens now lead the series 2-1, and carry a 2-game winning streak on their backs.

10:16 into the 1st period, D Alain Nasreddine stepped up on the point and blasted a heavy slapshot past Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe. That was Nasreddine’s 2nd goal of the playoffs.

Only 12 seconds later, LW Luca Caputi galloped into Philadelphia’s zone and fired a missed shot over the net. Luckily, F Connor James made a great play and wrapped the puck around, scoring his 3rd of the playoffs, putting the Pens up 2-0.

Then, at 17:06 D Alex Goligoski notched his 3rd of the playoffs. Goligoski skated the puck all the way in from end to end, and put a shot on net. The puck just trickled past the goal line, and was called a goal after further review. The AHL doesn’t use the video system to review, therefore usually close calls are called goals. Goligoski extended his scoring streak to 7 games, and was named the 1st star of the game with the game winning goal tonight.

The tempers flared as Philadelphia’s F Triston Grant dropped the gloves with the Penguins’ LW Paul Bissonnette. This was the first fight of the series.

The Phantoms would score 2 goals late in the 3rd period, but G John Curry stood strong and picked up the victory. Curry made 22 saves on 24 shots.

The Penguins did a great job tonight, and took early control of the game with a 3-0 lead, instead of falling down by 3 goals, as they did last game.
