This game started as a goaltending battle as both Penguins goaltender John Curry and Pirates goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin held shutouts until the 3rd period.

With only 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd period, F Dave Gove made a great diving play to put his 2nd goal of the playoffs past Aubin. This would go on to be the eventual game-winning goal.
