WBS Pens re-sign Connor James; add Joey Mormina

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Baby Penguins have also re-signed Connor James and signed Joey Mormina to one-year contracts.
Connor James was a vital part to the success of the Baby Penguins last year, and he even netted his 1st NHL goal with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. We all remember the grocery store call-up story, right?
Defenseman Joey Mormina was added into the mix today as well. Mormina is a hard-hitting physical D-man, who can be described as a future Hal Gill. Some of us may remember last year when Mormina broke Jeff Taffe’s nose after a questionable hard hit during a Hurricanes/Penguins game.
According to Jonathan Bombulie’s Penguins Insider Blog, “the Penguins expect to sign somewhere between two and four more players to NHL-AHL two-way deals.”
As Shero stated before, he wants some competition at training camp this year. Bombulie also mentioned that assistant GM Chuck Fletcher turned down the idea of Brad Isbister and Jeff Hamilton, and is currently looking to pursue unproven talent.

I know they’re signed by WBS, but don’t they have to be under contract w/Pgh too in order to be called up?

If they have 2-way contracts, it doesn’t matter, they can be called up and sent down to/from Pittsburgh.

I thought 1-way or 2-way only had to do with salary, not movement.
But Lovejoy was on an AHL-only contract this past season, correct? All three of them are now under contract with Pittsburgh, not just WBS. Thus adding to…what, the 50-or-so players an NHL team is allowed to have under contract?

Yes, Lovejoy had an AHL-only deal this past season.
Not sure what the NHL team limit is but you may be correct.

I think the full team limit is 40 players under contract.
James, Mormina, Kemp and Henrich were all signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins to two-way deals. Since they were signed by the Pgh Pens they can be called up, and the two-way deals mean that they are more affordable when they’re not in the AHL.
