| The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins three-game winning
streak was snapped last night at the hands of the Hershey Bears. The Penguins had not scored a goal in the Giant Center building since last year’s playoffs in May. Tough guy Jesse Boulerice had the lone Penguin goal, cashing in his 1st of the season, finishing a rush started by Joe Vitale and Tim Wallace. Besides that, really the only highlight was the Aaron Boogaard vs. Greg Amadio fight shown above. Notice the flying hit that started the scrap. Boogaard injured himself on the play and did not return after this. And it seems that the injury bug in Pittsburgh is making its way through their farm system now. Eric Tangradi was an unexpected late scratch due to an illness. Leading goal-scorer Ryan Bayda left the game in the first period with a leg injury. He was on crutches after the game. To end, Keven Veilleux was smashed along the boards by Amadio in the second period of play. Jonathan Bombulie seems to think the injury is not a minor one. John Curry played a very good game and has given WB/S a chance to win every game he’s played in so far this season. He’s ready for the NHL. Last night in the ECHL, the Wheeling Nailers lost 6-5 in overtime to Johnstown. Alex Grant had two goals within one minute of each other, and Casey Pierro-Zabotel tallied one assist to give him the team lead in that category (8). Top forwards Joey Haddad and Thomas Beauregard could be the top two call-up candidates to Wilkes-Barre. |
