The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Hershey Bears 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night in Hershey. This makes the third straight win for a team that has struggled with consistency.

There were only two goals in regulation, both at even strength. First blood was drawn by Hershey RW Joe Motzko a little over four minutes into the second period. WBS leading scorer Jeff Taffe tied the game about six minutes later.

The shootout is where things got interesting. Both regulation goal-scorers, Motzko and Taffe, scored for their teams. Also for the Penguins, Ryan Stone and Mark Letestu each scored to win the shootout round 3-1 for the Penguins.

WBS G Ty Conklin backstopped a solid game for the Penguins, making 32 saves in 33 shots. Hershey G Frederic Cassivi posted identical numbers in regulation, but allowed three of the five shootout scorers to find success. Conklin only allowed Motzko’s shootout tally.
