The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms with a late Kurtis McLean goal to win 3-2 on Sunday night.
The game started with a goal by WBS LW Chris Minard near the end of the power play late in the first period. Following that, D Mark Ardelan scored a power play goal from the point midway through a second period power play to give Wilkes-Barre a 2-0 lead.
The Phantoms tied the game with two goals about a minute apart in the second period, the second by infamous Phantom RW Steve Downie, who you may remember from the preseason suspension that he earned.
The Penguins were able to get the regulation win and deny the Phantoms the extra point when Nathan Smith found a seam in the Phantom defense and spring McLean on a breakaway that he was able to finish with a little more than a minute left.
The Penguins next game will be Friday night, Dec. 21, at home against the Manchester Monarchs.
