Each year, the NHL crafts a beautiful set of playoff brackets, yet few have taken the opportunity seized by the NCAA, giving fans an opportunity to pick the winners.

Well, our good friends at The Pensblog have grabbed the bull by the horns, creating Rinkatology, and have asked us to get involved.

The idea is to raise money to give to The Mario Lemieu Foundation, and the goal is to reach $10,066.

This collaborative effort gives our readers a chance to fill out NHL playoff brackets, predict the winners, and have that charitable feeling.

But it gets better.

We will be offering prizes such as a signed Mario Lemieux jersey, four tickets to a Pens game next year, and much more.

Now, we want everyone to be clear on this: Rinkatology is completely free. Donations are 100 percent optional, and even those who do not donate will be eligible to win prizes.

Details will be available Sunday, and participants will have until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 to fill out their brackets.

A meter tracking donations will be available at TPB beginning tomorrow — so don’t wait to donate!

Now, how to donate…

There are two ways.

  • First, the cool way: PayPal.

Click here to donate using PayPal, or use MLF’s PayPal address (Ops66@nauticom.net).

  • Second, the old school way: personal check via snail mail.
